Dallas Airmotive adds additional mobile service vehicle

Dallas Airmotive, a BBA Aviation Engine Repair and Overhaul Group (ERO) company, has added a new mobile service vehicle to its U.S. fleet. Based in St. Louis, Missouri the new mobile unit will cover the central United States including the Chicago area and offer a wide range of engine repair services including on site hot section inspection for Honeywell 36 series auxiliary power units and compressor carbon seal repair.

The Dallas Airmotive U.S. mobile fleet is now comprised of four shop level capable vehicles and eight lighter duty pickup trucks.

“The concept of the mobile service unit that we introduced in 2006 has really caught on,” comments Hugh McElroy, President of BBA Aviation Engine Repair and Overhaul Group. “Our mobile units in California, Northeast U.S. and Florida are dispatched to perform everything from minor service calls to engine and APU changes to hot section inspections. We will continue to add mobile service units in areas that exhibit high demand and a significant population of turbine powered business aircraft.

“What’s new and improved for the St. Louis unit is that instead of a box type truck, it is a 28 ft. long by 8 ½ ft. wide custom modified trailer hauled by a truck,” continued McElroy. “The trailer concept is very efficient for our purpose. It gives us more interior work space flexibility than box style vans plus we have the option of positioning the trailer so the truck and trailer can be utilized independently.”

Among the features of the mobile unit are shop level retractable work centers, cleaning and inspection equipment, ergonomic lifting and moving devices, telescopic engine and APU winching. The mobile unit carries LRU spares, tooling for line level maintenance and troubleshooting, technical data access and inspection tooling and equipment. It has the ability to flex to accommodate individual service workscopes.

On board capabilities will vary based by location however most include:

• Engine changes

• Line level repairs

• Hot section or other engine inspections

• Videoscope/borescope inspections

• LRU removal and installation

• Generator pad seal replacement

• Starter clutch replacement

• Carbon seal repair
