Housing for CCCC’s Aviation Maintenance Technology Students Now Open at Bridgewater State University

This is the first such agreement for Cape Cod CC and Bridgewater State, creating a true “destination program” for CCCC.
In a first-ever opportunity for students at Cape Cod Community College, on-site housing at Bridgewater State University is made available to students in CCCC’s Aviation Maintenance Technology (AMT) program. Students entering the program this fall will have the option to stay in an on-campus co-educational dorm and purchase an on-site meal plan if they wish.
BSU president, Fred Clark, and CCCC president, John Cox, on May 21, signed the historic agreement that will make it much easier for students living longer distances from the college’s Plymouth airport-based AMT program to enroll in the intensive 15 month-long course of study. The CCCC program leads to eligibility for FAA certification, and with a few more general education classes, an Associate of Applied Science degree in Aviation Maintenance Technology. The BSU campus is about 40 minutes away from the AMT Center at the Plymouth Municipal Airport.
President Cox says that a housing option has always been part of the college’s plan for the program, noting that there are few places for students to gain this kind of training, especially at the very affordable price offered by the community college, and that inquiries were starting to come from farther and farther away from Plymouth.
“This is such a unique program of study, with direct links into the aviation industry that is so desperate for trained workers, we believe that it is becoming a ‘destination program’ within the Northeast,” says President Cox. “Through this collaboration, all AMT students who wish to take advantage of the housing option will live in one building on the Bridgewater State campus. They will have complete access to the campus facilities as do all other students, including selecting a meal plan if they wish,” he explains.
The Bridgewater student housing building will remain open over traditional college vacations and holidays because the CCCC program takes very few breaks in the highly focused program. FAA “time-on-task” requirements are very strict in this program that trains students to repair both the airframe of an airplane and its engines and main systems. After completing the 15-month program, students are eligible to take their FAA certification exams and go on for further study to earn an Associate of Applied Science degree in Aviation Maintenance.
