Aircraft Mechanic II (23022): Aircraft Mechanics II must have a combination of experience to repair engines, sheet metal, and structural, hydraulic, electrical, power train and general mechanical maintenance of moderate difficulty, required to meet the assigned missions. Additionally provides input to Maintenance Engineering Changes (MEC), Estimated Cost of Damage preparation (ECOD) and assist in the recommendation of changes to (MWO). Individuals must be able to prioritize workloads and are required to lead teams through more complex aircraft relevant tasks. Mechanic IIs can inspect Mechanic IIs and Is. This mechanic maintains repairs and modifies aircraft structures and structural components of moderate difficulty, maintains and repairs aircraft components including but not limited to flight controls, engines, hydraulics, pneumatics, fuel systems, and mechanical components, applies technical knowledge of airframe and power plant systems in determining equipment malfunctions and applies required expertise in restoring equipment condition and or operation, and applies comprehensive technical expertise to solve moderate to complex problems by interpreting technical documentation such as blueprints or manufactures’ manuals. Must have a thorough knowledge of aircraft mechanical component troubleshooting, repair procedures and replacement of parts, requires broad knowledge of aircraft sheet metal/structural modifications and repair, must have basic knowledge of electrical theory, must have thorough knowledge of aircraft unique tools such as test equipment, torque wrenches, dial indicators, micrometers, sheet metal brakes and sheers. This job requires working knowledge of technical publications. The incumbent receives technical guidance, as required, from supervisor or higher-level technician, will occasionally be required to lead teams through more complex aircraft relevant tasks, and may be required to make entries in aircraft logs and records. Must be able to prioritize workload to maintain schedules on assigned projects. May require specialization in sheet-metal, electric work, avionics or other aircraft systems related disciplines. Additional requirements: Electro-Environmental Technician troubleshoots, modifies and repairs electrical systems, components and accessories related to aircraft propulsion electrical and environmental systems; Performs final functional and operational testing of these electrical systems; Tests, troubleshoots, corrects and maintains electrical power control systems which include power and control circuits with other functional systems; Replaces defective control units, wiring, relay boards, servo units, indicating instruments, or other components of the electrical systems. Installs nonconventional electric and related electronic equipment by routing and connecting wiring to new or existing electrical or electronic systems, components, or equipment; Researches engine modification history, technical orders, engineering change proposals, and manuals concerning wire codes, wiring configuration, and testing procedures. Assists engine mechanics with bleed air duct routing and installation and provides leak check capabilities. Performs scheduled and unscheduled inspections, maintenance and documentation on Aerospace Ground Equipment (AGE) related to support aircraft engines IAW applicable Technical Data. If acting as CFT on-site Team Lead, must possess a level of experience necessary to oversee operations of other CFT members and oversee production to ensure established timelines remain on schedule. Must have technical knowledge of aircraft propulsion electrical/ environmental systems with a minimum of two (2) years’ experience (equivalent to Air Force Skill Level 5 as an aircraft electro-environmental journeyman). Skill and Knowledge:  Shall have the ability to troubleshoot malfunctions in various aircraft systems and be able to perform general Intermediate Level maintenance and possess one or more of the specialties of the assigned aircraft below: Electrical Systems and related Sub-systems

  • Must be knowledgeable of technical directives and shall be knowledgeable of and understand basic supply procedures.
  • Aircraft Mechanic II shall have experience writing with clarity and technical accuracy, and exhibit leadership and ensure adherence to all applicable policies and procedures.
  • Possess a high degree of expertise in the control and coordination of aircraft maintenance.
  • Thorough working knowledge of applicable maintenance/technical manuals and publications.
  • Thorough working knowledge of aircraft maintenance records.
  • Working understanding of the aircraft and aircraft systems.

Task Requirements:

  • Perform Intermediate (I) Level Maintenance and Organizational (O) Level Maintenance work on C-130 engines, modules, assemblies, parts and accessories, quick engine change (QEC) kits, and C-130 propellers
  • Accomplish maintenance and documentation actions necessary to restore assigned engines, propellers, accessories and support equipment to a serviceable condition IAW applicable technical orders/manuals and other applicable Air Force directives
  • May provide knowledge-based over-the-shoulder training to military personnel
  • Will be assigned as team members to augment maintenance tasks/functions provided by the Government employees
  • Perform work in accordance with applicable publications, technical directives, instructions, standards, and procedures contained in pertinent manuals utilizing blueprints, drawings or schematics as provided by 130th Airlift Wing through the COR
  • Shall utilize applicable technical manuals, forms, publications, bulletins, directives, specifications, standards, and field procedures guides
  • Repair, rebuild, and replace unserviceable parts, assemblies, subassemblies and components
  • Shall protect engines, propellers, and associated parts from damage using caps, plugs, shipping containers, and protective coatings as outlined in applicable technical data
  • Shall provide direct support of a test cell pre-run when it is determined to be beneficial by the production control representative
  • Shall replace condemned parts of the engine, propeller, module, or assemblies with serviceable parts listed in the applicable parts catalog
  • Shall use all parts and assemblies determined serviceable and appropriate as a result of inspection and check
  • Shall strive to meet locally generated flow times for end item repairs
  • Shall strive for continuous process improvements utilizing Lean Logistics practices/tools to further minimize repair times
  • Shall conduct disassembly, assembly, and testing of engines, propellers, modules, assemblies, and components, IAW all applicable technical orders
  • Shall clean, perform corrosion control actions, and inspect engine and propeller parts IAW applicable TO specifications
  • Shall ensure that all engines are returned to service with the same TCTO/modifications and upgrades that the engine had when it was inducted for repair (as a minimum)
  • Shall ensure removed engine accessories are condition tagged (serviceable, repairable or condemned)
  • Shall process repairable items IAW AFMAN 23-122 Material Management Procedures
  • Shall disassemble and inspect QEC kits IAW TOs 1C-130A-6, 16W14-12-3 and other applicable technical data
  • shall accomplish repairs to include: sheet metal repair, TCTO approved modifications, and damaged fasteners IAW applicable tech data
  • Shall be required to replace unserviceable hoses, wiring components, overheat detectors, and other QEC components IAW 16W14-12-3.
  • shall perform clean-up duties, such as cleaning equipment, sweeping, straightening, and lining up tools and other property in the assigned area at the end of the shift or more frequently as required to perform tasks
  • Shall comply with applicable AFI 91-203 and MOI 91-2 requirements
  • Shall be responsible for maintaining and controlling hazardous wastes with the current USAF directives, to include federal and local procedures
  • Shall comply with Occupational Safety and Health Act (OSHA) [Public Law 91-596 as amended by Public Law 101-552] and OSHA Standard 29 Code of Federal Regulations (CFR), Part 1910, Occupational Safety and Health Standards
  • Shall comply with DoD Directive 4715.1E, Environmental, Safety, and Occupational Health (ESOH)
  • Shall comply with all applicable security requirements
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Five (5) or more years’ experience (equivalent to Air Force Skill Level 5 as an aircraft electro-environmental journeyman) or higher

Basic Qualifications:

  • Must have technical knowledge of aircraft propulsion electrical/environmental systems with a minimum of two (2) years’ experience (equivalent to Air Force Skill Level 5 as an aircraft electro-environmental journeyman)
  • Must be able to work any shift as required
  • Must have a Common Access Card (CAC) and shall be required to pass the equivalent of a trustworthy National Agency Check plus Written Inquiries with Credit Check (NACI), IAW DTM-08-003 or latest guidance, prior to hire

Compensation $32.86/hour Other Compensation Employees will receive a health and welfare fringe benefit of $2.65 for every hour worked. Benefits Employees are offered medical, dental, vision, and basic life insurance. Employees are able to enroll in KAI’s 401k plan.  Employees have a minimum of eleven paid holidays.  After completing one year of service, employees will have two weeks paid vacation.
