Aircraft Mechanic - FULL TIME - Helicopter - FIRE

DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS:

The Aircraft Mechanic position repairs and services aircraft and engines as determined by assignment Incumbents perform job duties under the direction of the Supervising Aircraft Mechanic.

Duties:

• Ensures airworthiness of aircraft; services, repairs, and makes modifications to aircraft and engines on a scheduled basis and as conditions warrant; follows aircraft and engine manufacturers manuals and other sources for approved specification and technical data; uses a variety of hand, power and shop floor tools.
• Inspects and troubleshoots engines for deficiencies and malfunctions; tests engine appropriate tools and instruments; makes recommendations for repair and replacement of parts according to malfunction.
• Removes and disassembles aircraft and its components using hoist or other lifting devices; disassembles and inspects parts for serviceability and discrepancies; replaces unserviceable airframe and engine components.
• Responds to emergency aircraft call-outs from base site; troubleshoots, repairs and makes adjustments to electrical systems in aircraft, accessories and instruments that affect aircraft airworthiness.
• Consults with pilots, both in flight and on the ground, as to probable cause of malfunction or unusual operating conditions; participates in maintenance test flights to ascertain aircraft airworthiness; conducts preflight and post-flight inspections to ensure continued airworthiness.
• Starts and secures aircraft; performs aircraft cleaning and corrosion control.
• Maintains hangar and work area cleanliness and orderly housekeeping.
• Prepares and maintains required reports and records; may be responsible for developing record keeping policies.

OTHER FUNCTIONS:

• Performs other duties of similar nature or level as required.

EMPLOYMENT STANDARDS:

• License: Incumbents are required to have and maintain a valid FAA Airframe and Powerplant certificate AND three (3) years of experience as an aircraft mechanic, including two (2) years of experience with light and/or medium turbine helicopters.
• Knowledge of: approved aircraft maintenance and repair principles, procedures and techniques; applicable FAA regulations and requirements: mathematical processes, including algebraic and geometric principles; blade tracking and balancing methods and equipment; operations and capabilities of applicable aircraft; report writing techniques.
• Skill in: aircraft maintenance and repair; working with and interpreting electrical conditions, such as measuring, capacitors, inductors, voltage, current, resistance, continuity, and leakage, calculated measure, conductivity in electrical power; reading and interpreting drawings and specifications, including electrical; performing complete weight and balance checks; utilizing approved nondestruction testing methods; determining area and volume of geometrical shapes; solving ratio proportion in percentage problems: completing required reports and forms: writing description of aircraft capabilities, environmental conditions, and work performed; working under emergency conditions as warranted; communicating both orally and in writing sufficient to exchange or convey information and to receive work direction.
