Mechanic 1 (Sheet Metal)SCA 23021Location: USCG AviationLogistics Center #8211; Elizabeth City, NCFLSA: HourlyUnionStatus: Full-timeContract Status: ActiveThe Aircraft Mechanic I (Sheet Metal) duties shall include, but are not limited to: ·Ability to perform sheet metal, plastic, and composite depot level repairs on fixed or rotary wing aircraft. ·Ability to perform major airframe repairs or modifications. ·Ability to use of applicable airframe repair procedures and/or DHS/DOD engineering approved procedures in performance of tasks resulting in safe, mission ready aircraft. ·Experience in performing airframe repairs that utilize various glues, resins, fiberglass, epoxy, pro-seal and/or other chemical reactive consumables as per applicable aircraft technical references. ·Experience in reading and interpreting drawings. ·Ability to form, shape, and fabricate aircraft stringers, bulkheads, access panels, doublers, inspection plates, box-beams, fairings/cowlings for fuselage applications and on primary flight control surfaces. ·Service, repair, and overhaul aircraft to ensure airworthiness. ·Troubleshoot malfunctions in aircraft structure, landing gear, flight surfaces and controls, anti-icing, pneumatic, engines, auxiliary power unit, propellers and propeller gearboxes, ventilation and heating systems. ·Repair, replace, and rebuild aircraft structures, such as wings and fuselage, and functional components including rigging, surface controls, and plumbing and hydraulic units, using hand tools, power tools, machines, and equipment such as shears, sheet metal brake, welding equipment, rivet gun, and drills. ·Read and interpret manufacturer's and airline's maintenance manuals, service bulletins, technical data, engineering data, and other specifications to determine feasibility and method of repairing or replacing malfunctioning or damaged components. ·Perform progressive, isochronal, phase, periodic, and other hourly or calendar inspections. ·Examine engines for any abnormalities IAW the OEM's maintenance manual such as engine/hydraulic leaks, general wear and tear, chaffing lubrication line, electrical harnesses and other components associated with the engine. ·Examine the propeller system for delaminated, damaged, chipped or worn propeller blades. Also inspect the propeller gearbox for any abnormalitiesIAW the OEM's maintenance manual such as lubrication leaks, general wear and tear, chaffing lubrication line, electrical harnesses and other componentsassociated with the propeller system. ·Inspect jet engines and components for cracks, corrosion, foreign object damage, burned areas, distortions, security, warping, wear, and missing segments. ·Inspect jet engine turbine blades to detect cracks, distortion, corrosion, burn-out, security, or breaks. ·Replace or repair worn or damaged components, alternators, fuel controls, fuel pumps, oil pumps, engine mounted gearboxes, and compressor bleedvalves using hand tools, gauges, and testing equipment. ·Remove engine from aircraft, using hoist or forklift truck. ·Disassemble and inspect parts for wear, cracks, and airworthiness.·Repair or replace defective engine parts and reassembles and installs engine in aircraft. ·Adjust, repair, or replace electrical wiring system and aircraft accessories. ·Perform preflight, thru-flight, and post-flight maintenance inspections. ·Perform miscellaneous duties to service aircraft, including flushing gearboxes, cleaning screens and filters, greasing moving parts, and checking brakes. ·Supervise the jacking and towing of aircraft. ·Enter in the maintenance record description of the work performed and verify the work was performed satisfactorily. ·May service engines and airframe components at line station making repairs, short of overhaul, required to keep aircraft in safe operating condition. ·May specialize in work, repair and modification of structural, precision, and functional spare parts and assemblies, and may specialize in line maintenance engine repair. ·Provide technical direction to Aircraft Mechanic Helpers and Aircraft Workers.
Qualifications:·Four (4) years of documented experience performing aircraft maintenance on fixed or rotary wing aircraft. ·Four (4) years of documented experience performing aircraft sheet metal repairs on fixed or rotary wing aircraft. ·Ability to operate all GSE equipment associated with fixed wing airframes (tow tractor, scissor lift, cranes, mast boom lift, etc.) ·Forklift qualified.·High school diploma or equivalent (unless higher education is required for a particular job category). ·Ability to read, write, speak and understand English fluently. ·Shall be citizens of the U.S. ·Possess computer skills to include a basic knowledge sufficient to complete internet searches and prepare/edit documents utilizing word processingor spreadsheet applications. ·Obtain and retain all access levels and/or clearances as required by the contract.Working conditions:·Aircraft maintenance environment.·In and around aircraft and ground support equipment, maybe subject to loud noises, exhaust fumes, dust, extreme weather conditions·Must be able to work all shifts as needed, shift times/ work weeks may be altered to meet customer requirements with minimum amount of notificationPhysical requirements:·Must be able to safely move about in aircraft maintenance environment.·Shall be capable of performing tasks that frequently require: lifting, reaching, bending, walking, pulling, sitting, and standing, crouching, stooping, kneeling, and stretching for prolonged periods of time. ·Shall be capable of performing tasks in cramped, awkward, and strained positions and/or climbing up and down ladders, work platforms,scaffolding, and aircraft structures. ·Shall be capable of carrying items up to 40 pounds and on heavier items shall seek assistance of other workers or weight lifting devices. ·Shall be capable of using cumbersome Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) for Hazardous Material (HAZMAT) operations. ·Regularly required to talk and/or be able to hear.·Specific vision abilities required by the job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to focusDirect report:Reports to On-Site Lead and M2 Director of Operations.
