Mechanical Engineer 2 - Automotive OEM
We are seeking a full-time Mechanical Engineer 2 for our Automotive OEM team located at our world headquarters in the Kansas City area. In this role, you will develop complex mechanical solutions for Auto OEM customers. Mechanical Engineers are offered a wide range of diverse experiences at Garmin: managing customer requirements, creating test plans through all phases of development, and ensuring system compliance through to mass production.Essential Functions: bull;Complete moderately complex mechanical designs for Garmin Automotive OEM products bull;Expert CAD user able to model complex parts and produce detailed drawings bull;Mockup and test mechanical systems to verify compliance with automotive design requirements bull;Communicate effectively with OEM customers and global partners bull;Manage customer requirements and create test plans accordingly to validate mechanical design bull;Manage specifications and supplier drawings following a requirements driven design approach bull;Interface with Electrical Engineers and Process Engineers to negotiate tradeoffs between performance, manufacturing and thermal management bull;Engage with Systems Engineers to successfully complete DFMEA’s bull;Work with Tooling Engineers and Sourcing Team to gather estimates on tooling, part cost and design time for basic mechanical designs bull;Possess knowledge of injection molding, die casting, sheet metal stamping, machining processes, etc. bull;Demonstrate familiarity with product qualification tests (environmental and others) bull;Assist Quality Engineering to provide supporting documentation for PPAP activities bull;Collaborate and add value through participation in design reviews, providing comments and suggestions on mechanical engineering designs bull;Overseas travel as required
Qualified candidates must possess a Bachelor of Science Degree OR Master of Science Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering or Aerospace Engineering from a four year college or university AND one year relevant experience OR an equivalent combination of education and experience. Other qualifications include: bull;Outstanding academics (cumulative GPA greater than or equal to 3.0 as a general rule) bull;Experiential knowledge of CAD software and the ability to model moderately complex parts bull;Demonstrates proficient knowledge and utilization of engineering tools necessary for successful performance of the essential functions of this job description bull;Strong and effective verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skillsDesirable Qualifications: bull;Previous experience working in the automotive industry, particularly for Tier 1 suppliers bull;Previous work or internship experience in the design of electronics products bull;Experience of requirements management tools such as Doors or Jama bull;Superior academics (cumulative GPA greater than or equal to 3.5) bull;Experience using SolidWorks or CATIA CAD software bull;Experience designing/simulating thermal management of electronics systems bull;Mechanical systems repair or troubleshooting experienceGarmin International is an equal opportunity employer.
