Aerospace Maintenance Competition
The D.O.M. magazine team is in Dallas this week attending the MRO Americas show. The Aerospace Maintenance Competition (AMC) Sponsored by Snap-on is being held in conjunction with the show. It's always fun walking around the AMC and seeing all of the teams participating.
It's great to see so many Part 147 schools participating in the competition. These students are in their early 20's — the same age I was when I started working as an aircraft mechanic. I don't think I would have had the courage to compete in a competition like the AMC as a young mechanic, much less as a student. Yet, these young kids are enthusiastically participating with determination and positive attitudes. Although they are competing with A&Ps who have been honing their skills for decades longer, their perseverance doesn't waver as they go through each event.
I have talked to quite a few student competitors over the past two days. Most admit they are nervous. All have been having fun. And they are appreciative of the networking opportunities available because of their participation in the AMC. Word has it that some of them already have jobs offers on the table as soon as they graduate from school!
Congratulations to all the AMC competitors! It is great to see aircraft maintenance professionals competing in a friendly and competitive environment showcasing their skills to the thousands of attendees at MRO Americas.
Look in our upcoming June issue for a wrap up of the AMC.
