AFI KLM E&M Partners with WestJet for GEnx Support

AFI KLM E&M and WestJet ink a letter of intent to sign a contract for maintenance and support for the GEnx engines equipping the Canadian carrier's fleet of 10 Boeing 787-9s. AFI KLM E&M will monitor WestJet's GEnx fleet using its PROGNOS for ENGINE data-analysis and predictive-maintenance system. This is the first major contract between the two groups.

With its dual profile as an MRO and an airline operating the GEnx, AFI KLM E&M has developed a very high level of operational and technical know-how around the new-generation powerplant. Its expertise and MRO capabilities cover every aspect of GEnx overhaul and maintenance, from overhaul and test services to on-wing/on-site support, not to mention repairs to engine parts and assemblies.

Jeff Martin, WestJet chief operating officer, says: "AFI KLM E&M's extensive knowledge of the GEnx engines ensures WestJet, and, in return, our guests will benefit from the reliable, high-quality services provided by our new partner."

Ton Dortmans, executive vice president, KLM Engineering & Maintenance, says: "It is with great pride and great pleasure that we are launching this partnership with WestJet. For more than two decades, WestJet has been constantly renewing itself to better serve its customers, especially today, as it brings the 787 into its fleet. We will do our utmost to offer them the very best in support services for their GEnx engines as they begin 787 operations."

Through its service proposal, AFI KLM E&M demonstrates its ability to offer support designed to deliver optimum engine, and hence aircraft, availability, aligned with its customers' requirements. This includes tailored solutions, such as the provision of a spare engine, AOG support, and engine monitoring, using the AFI KLM E&M PROGNOS for ENGINE predictive-maintenance system. The combination of these capabilities helps AFI KLM E&M to maximize engine time on-wing and ensure operational continuity for customer airlines.
