General Summary:

STS Technical Services is seeking an Aircraft Assembly Inspector to join our team in Greensboro, North Carolina. The successful candidate will inspect materials, products, processes, and components for conformance to customer specifications, including first part, in-process, and final inspection. This role involves supporting the mechanical and assembly manufacturing departments and handling technical problems of moderate to complex scope with minimal supervision. The ideal candidate will embody Honda Aircraft Company, Inc. values and philosophy.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate with quality and production personnel; no direct reports
  • Facilitate the HACI Quality System
  • Perform in-process inspections per Type Design, Work Orders, and internal procedures
  • Conduct final inspections per customer and company requirements
  • Write Quality Notifications for non-conforming products and assist in corrective actions
  • Maintain positive working relationships with other departments
  • Assist manufacturing in troubleshooting problems as they occur
  • Ensure the accuracy of quality assurance records
  • Perform first piece and/or first article inspections
  • Cross-train with other inspectors, including incoming and other inspection tasks
  • Perform additional tasks as requested

Education, Work Experience, Certification, and/or Licensure:

  • Associate Degree (Technical) and/or minimum 2 years’ quality or manufacturing-related experience, including mechanical, composite, or systems assembly. One year of direct aircraft quality experience may substitute for each year of college.
  • Airframe and Powerplant (AP) License preferred.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Effective communication skills with other personnel
  • Proficiency in basic manufacturing inspection equipment, including calipers, micrometers, plug and thread gages, and electronic height gages
  • Experienced in blue print reading, including GDT
  • Strong computer knowledge
  • Effective time management, minimizing irrelevant issues or distractions

Desired Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Experience within an ISO 9001 Quality System
  • Training in Lean Manufacturing
  • Experience in first article inspections
  • Familiarity with aircraft manufacturing, including composites, sheet metal, and machining
  • SAP experience

Physical Requirements:

  • Exposure to equipment operational noise, heat, cold, dust, and aircraft equipment, parts, or fuel odors.
  • Ability to stand, sit, squat, walk, bend, climb ladders, move, reach, or stretch for prolonged periods.
  • Work safely and professionally while adhering to regulatory requirements (FAA, OSHA, DOT, EPA, State, and Federal regulations).
  • Ability to read, hear, speak, and see with no restrictions.
  • Comprehend and adhere to management directions and safety instructions.
  • Effectively communicate in Business English.
  • Ability to pull, push, carry, lift, or move items up to 10 lbs. throughout the work shift without assistance.
  • Ability to pull, push, carry, lift, or move materials/equipment weighing up to 50 lbs. or more during the work shift, using Company-provided reach assistance technology (fork-lifts, pallet jacks, pulleys, dollies, robotics, people movers, etc.).
