The Avionics Technician performs aircraft maintenance to include inspection, operational test, repair, modification and replacement of aircraft electrical / avionics systems and components.  Applies technical knowledge and skills to troubleshoot electrical / avionics discrepancies.Essential Responsibilities:

  • Possess in-depth knowledge of applicable maintenance/technical manuals and publications, and special tools and test equipment. Must be familiar with operational capabilities and limitations of electrical/avionics systems
  • Possess a high degree of expertise of aircraft electrical/avionics systems
  • Performs the inspection, testing, troubleshooting, repair, modification and rewiring as required of complex avionics/electrical systems and subsystems discrepancies and modifications
  • Use schematic diagrams, blueprint drawings, maintenance manuals and factory publications to operate, modify, test and repair aircraft electrical / avionics systems.
  • Utilize test equipment to include but not limited to digital volt / amp meter, transponder ramp tester, fuel quantity tester, ITT calibration test set, and other test equipment required in the troubleshooting, modification, and repair of avionics / electrical systems.
  • Order parts and materials.
  • Obtain and maintain qualification as a Plane Captain and any associated licenses/qualifications necessary to perform the duties of an OMAT2. 
  • Operate ground support equipment.
  • Identify and treat avionics/ electrical corrosion.
  • Perform aircraft jacking and hoisting as required.
  • Perform certification and re-certification of altimeter systems.
  • Perform calibration of directional guidance systems.
  • Required to perform collateral duty inspections.
  • Must obtain and keep current turn qualification.
  • Maintain cleanliness of the work center.
  • Comply with Foreign Object Damage (FOD), Egress Familiarization, and Hazardous Waste and Tool Control programs.
  • Comply with all established general and industrial safety rules and regulations as applicable to the contract, facility, and job assignment.
  • Assist as directed to ensure safety, security and preservation of government / company owned equipment.
  • Present a courteous and professional demeanor when dealing with customers.
  • Furnish and maintain own hand tools.
  • Operate portable firefighting equipment.
  • Operate aircraft ground servicing equipment including vehicles, tugs, tractors, servicing carts, aircraft jacks and hoists, test equipment, hand tools, power tools.

Perform all other position related duties as assigned or requested.Minimum Position Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Required:

  • Satisfactory completion of U.S. Armed Forces aircraft avionics school or other schools with equivalent curriculum or three (3) years of on-the-job training and / or experience working with similar avionics systems and components is required.
  • Graduation from high school or GED required.
  • Must be able to meet any Government / Company licensing / qualification requirements for the position.
  • Must have three (3) years’ experience in aircraft electrical / avionics maintenance including avionics corrosion detection, treatment and prevention, performing maintenance on avionics and/ or electrical systems, utilizing tools, blueprints, drawings, wiring diagrams, schematics and normal safety requirement.
  • Demonstrate a basic knowledge of aircraft systems and nomenclature. 
  • Possess working knowledge and skill in the use of basic tools and test equipment.
  • Must be familiar with the operational capabilities and limitations of electrical / avionics systems.
  • Possess a working knowledge of the detection, prevention, and treatment of corrosion.
  • Must be able to read, write, understand, and communicate the English language and follow verbal and written instruction.
  • Must obtain and keep current turn qualification.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain U.S. passport for facility credentials/authorization. NOTE: U.S. citizenship is required for facility credentials/authorization at this work site.

Work Environment, Physical Demands, and Mental Demands:Requires sitting, standing, and walking for extended periods of time.  Requires frequent climbing, bending, stooping, squatting, crawling, crouching, kneeling, lifting, carrying, balancing and reaching above shoulder level, pushing or pulling weight up to 70 pounds.  Requires eye-hand coordination and manual dexterity.  Must have close vision to include color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.  Requires hearing to normal range.  May require use of respirator. Requires shift work and a diversity of working conditions that range from a standard shop/hangar type environment, where there may be no physical discomfort, to an environment where inclement weather may subject individual to severe changes in temperature, direct sun, wind, rain, etc. May be required to work in areas where noise hazards are prevalent. Exposure to high intensity noise levels, extreme changes in temperature, materials identified on Material Safety Data Sheets; working on or around aircraft and machinery.  May be exposed to electrical shock hazard. Work location is aircraft maintenance shops, hangars, and flight line.  May require travel in support of cross-country rescue and detachments of unknown duration.       Amentum is proud to be an Equal Opportunity Employer.
