HUMS Meeting Draws Crowd, Despite Weather

From February 11-13, the American Helicopter Society (AHS) Redstone Chapter, with sponsorship from HAI, hosted a Technical Specialists’ Meeting on Airworthiness, Condition Based Maintenance (CBM), and Health and Usage Monitoring (HUMS) at the University of Alabama in Huntsville.

HAI staffers Ed DiCampli, Harold Summers, and others from the HAI HUMS research team were instrumental in organizing the civilian portion of the conference. “The value of this conference is the interaction between the military, research community, OEMs, regulators, and the civilian operating community all attending this conference. Everyone is learning from everyone, which is invaluable, and the networking is extremely beneficial,” said Ed DiCampli, HAI’s executive vice president and HUMS research program manager.

Despite the snow storm in the northeast of the United States, more than 260 people from around the world attended the meeting. Presentations included applicable technologies that are new to continued airworthiness, current and potential processes, hardware required for military and civil aircraft airworthiness, economic return on investment, data management, diagnostics/prognostics, and regulatory issues.
