Pratt & Whitney Procures Engine Orders
East Hartford, Conn. - Pratt & Whitney announced orders for the PurePower PW1000G engine family at the Farnborough Air Show. The PurePower engine family powers four different aircraft platforms. CIT, JetBlue and IndiGo finalized agreements for PW1100G-JM engines, as Cebu Pacific Air and Norwegian Air Shuttle placed new orders, lifting the tally to more than 1,100 firm PW1100G-JM engine orders. Additional orders for PurePower engines came with the selection of the Mitsubishi Regional Jet (MRJ) by Skywest Inc., with the PW1200G engine as the exclusive powerplant for all 100 firm aircraft in the order. Bombardier’s CSeries, exclusively powered by the PW1500G engine, recorded orders from airBaltic and an undisclosed customer, bringing the PW1500G engine customer base to 13 and growing the PurePower engine total order book to more than 2,800 engines, including options.
The PurePower engine program is on track with certification of the first member of the engine family, the PW1500G engine, scheduled for 2012. The PW1200G engine for the MRJ recently completed a successful first flight test program, following 23 flights and 127 hours of flight time aboard Pratt & Whitney’s Boeing 747SP flying test bed. The PurePower engine test program has amassed more than 3,000 hours and 9,300 cycles.
