Saft Releases White Paper on Mixing Cells in Nickel Cadmium Aircraft Batteries

Saft, a manufacturer of Nickel Cadmium (NiCd) aircraft batteries, has released a White Paper titled "PMA Approval for Mixing of Cells in Nickel Cadmium Aircraft Batteries." The White Paper was written by Nigel Thomas, aviation technical sales manager, Saft International, and Michael Waller, aviation technical sales and applications manager, Saft America.

The white paper addresses concerns with mixing PMA NiCd cells with OEM cells. Concerns such as lower capacity battery cells being driven into deep discharge (forced discharge) are discussed. The White Paper also calls to question FAA approval for PMA battery cells.
