It is that time of year – people around the world are celebrating the holidays. Here at my house, we are getting ready for Christmas. As I write this, there are still a few last-minute things we need to get, but for the most part we are done with our shopping and preparation. We will be sitting down with our family on the 25th to enjoy some quality time together.
We will definitely have a white Christmas here in Wisconsin. I enjoy the snow, but having two small dogs I need to walk, I’m not always crazy about having to take them out in sub-zero temperatures while I wait for them to “finish their business.” I must say, I am a bit jealous when I see some friends posting on Facebook how warm it is where they live. (Yes, that includes Ken MacTiernan, who just HAD to post how nice it felt to be in the mid-80s in San Diego!)
I grew up in South Texas, and lived in Alabama for five years before moving up here to Wisconsin in 2000. Looking back, it’s funny how my perspective has changed. When I was turning wrenches in Corpus Christi, TX, I remember donning insulated coveralls, a knit hat and gloves with the fingers cut off whenever I had to work in temperatures that were 40 or below. After 13 years of living here in Wisconsin, it’s ironic how after months of extremely cold weather, a 40-degree day in March feels like t-shirt and shorts weather!
Whatever the weather is where you live, the staff at D.O.M. magazine would like to wish you and your family a pleasant holiday season and a safe and prosperous new year.
See you in 2014!
