The Torngat Mountains National Park - an Inuit Homeland, is one of the last untamed, unspoiled places left on earth. Comprised of 9,700 square kilometers of spectacular wilderness, the Park stretches north from Saglek Fjord to the northern tip of Labrador, and westward from the Atlantic seacoast to the Queacute;bec border. Itrsquo;s a land of mountains, polar bears, small glaciers, and caribou, where the Inuit hunt, fish, and travel as their ancestors did.Air Borealis is currently seeking a Fixed-Term Maintenance Worker for the Torngat Mountains Project. This position would be located at the Torngat Mountain Base Camp for the approximate duration of July ndash; September, 2024.What to Expect in the Torngat Mountain National Park:

  • Operate in a remote isolated camp in a stunning natural environment for nine weeks.
  • Make connections and ever-lasting friendships with people from all over the world.
  • Travel an experience different remarkable landmarks that all have a story to tell, by helicopter or zodiac boat.
  • Hike unique Inuit ancestral grounds.
  • Witness wildlife in their natural habitats.
  • Sleep beneath the picturesque northern lights.
  • Ensure guests have an excellent time by sharing experiences with them such as fishing, iceberg watching, swimming in pristine bodies of water, amongst many other cultural activities!

Job Duties:

  • Oversees repairs and troubleshoots problems with equipment, systems, and structures for the Torngat Base Camp.
  • Monitor use of and refueling of propane tanks within the Torngat Base Camp.
  • Responsible for maintaining daily check lists of preventive maintenance routines.
  • Be the point of contact with other stakeholders in troubleshooting maintenance concerns as necessary.
  • Conduct routine inspections of premises and equipment.
  • Perform preventative maintenance.
  • Handle basic repairs and maintenance.
  • Work with contractors when professional repairs are necessary.
  • Report and work with Logistics Manager to determine best course of action when issues are outside of scope.
  • Conducts all work with a safety-first focus.
  • Other related duties as required.

Qualifications:

  • Knowledge of several different areas which include, plumbing and electrical systems, as well of the structural makeup of the buildings within the Torngat Base Camp.
  • Experience using hand and electrical tools.
  • Ability to read technical manuals and drawings.
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Strong communication skills, including the ability to listen actively, respond verbally in a manner that is clear and respectful.
  • Capable of adapting repair skills and mechanical knowledge to a wide range of different requests.
  • Ability to deal with diverse groups of people.
  • Ability to live in an isolated camp for an extended period.
  • Five yearsrsquo; experience in general maintenance work.
