EAA AirVenture 2018

Oshkosh is a town, population 66,000, in Wisconsin. But every summer, almost 600,000 aviation enthusiasts visit this Wisconsin town for EAA AirVenture — a one-week event that has come to be known by many as simply "Oshkosh." EAA AirVenture 2018 is less than two weeks away. The D.O.M. magazine staff will be there. Will you?

If you have never been to AirVenture, you are missing out on a special experience. There is a lot to see and do. You can see all types of aircraft from vintage planes to the latest technology. There are daily air shows and plenty of exhibitors showcasing their products and services for pilots and mechanics. AirVenture has grown from its humble beginnings as a show for home builders to a mega-event for all aviation enthusiasts.

I encourage everyone to make at least one visit to AirVenture. But who knows, once you visit you might not be able to stop at one! This will be my 18th visit to AirVenture!

I have many fond memories of my visits to AirVenture over the past 18 years. My favorite is the time I got to ride with Mike Mancuso in his Extra 300 aerobatic plane. I managed to survive all the aerobatic maneuvers he put me through without reverse-eating breakfast! It was a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity!

I have also camped out in Camp Scholler many times, both in tents and a camper. I remember the time I came back to my campsite after a severe thunderstorm had come through. My large Coleman tent was piled up in a bundle in the middle of my campsite. My neighbors told me that the tent had been ripped from its stakes and had become airborne, "flying" almost a mile. They were able to recover it after the storm passed and brought it back to my campsite. It was a little beat up, but I was able to continue camping for the rest of the week.

AirVenture gives attendees the opportunity to visit with fellow pilots and mechanics while feeding the addiction we share —all things aviation.

If you see us walking around the show, be sure to say hi! We'd love to chat with you!

Thanks for reading!
