FAA Approves Quiet Technology Aerospace's Solution to Thrust Reverser Corrosion

Quiet Technology Aerospace (QTA) is awarded FAA supplemental type certificate (STC) ST04560AT for a permanent solution to the plaguing problem of thrust-reverser corrosion for the family of aircraft powered by the HTF7000 engine. The QTA corrosion solution is not a repair. It is the market’s only permanent way to eliminate corrosion.

There is a significant and recurring corrosion problem with thrust reverser doors and aft body assemblies on the thrust reversers installed on the family of aircraft utilizing the Honeywell HTF7000 engines. Until now, an operator’s only remedy was to replace a TR door with factory-new, and if the side beams are out of limit, a new aft body assemble, both at tremendous cost.

Quiet Technology Aerospace expects its permanent solution to be available imminently to global operators. The STC approves installation of the QTA upgrade on super mid-size jets, including:

  • Bombardier Challenger 300/350/3500
  • Gulfstream G280
  • Embraer Legacy 450/500 and Praetor 500/600.

The Textron Longitude 700 will be added at a later date.

QTA's permanent solution is unique by re-manufacturing the original doors, a one-piece forging in 7075, replacing the aluminum in the corroded area with a new titanium aft section. The aft body side beams are protected by a new titanium skin. QTA’s terminating solution maintains the same inner mold line and exit area as a new original TR.

The solution comes with a lifetime structural warranty that automatically transfers with the aircraft regardless of future sales of the airframe. QTA has received FAA certification for all the existing TR hardware and is able to supply the marketplace with hardware independent of TR upgrades. All QTA hardware will come with 8130-3 approval from QTA’s DMIR.

Barry Fine, CEO of Quiet Technology Aerospace, says, "It is just fantastic to now be able to provide operators with this solution. QTA has been engineering as hard and as smart as ever to bring to market our permanent corrosion solutions that make operating safer and far less expensive than the typical corrosion ‘repair’ that merely replaces corroded parts with factory new…that are guaranteed to fail again.”
