To continue our standard of excellence, Piedmont is seeking a motivated, reliable student to join us as a Flight and Maintenance Safety Intern. This internship will assist in achieving the corporate mission of providing a safe environment for employees and customers. Interns will have the opportunity to learn about and be exposed to each function of an airline safety department.  After successfully completing the internship, the intern will have an overall knowledge needed to understand all elements of safety. This position reports to the Manager of Safety Programs.  Essential Duties:         Assist with processing Aviation Safety Reports submitted through the online employee Safety Reporting System        Review and assist with investigating reports received through the company’s Aviation Safety Action Programs (ASAP) and Fatigue Risk Management Plan (FRMP)        Research into known or suspected safety concerns, assisting in creating presentations, and reviewing manuals        Provide support for developing proactive safety solutions, including publication of Safety Bulletins and Safety Awareness newsletters        Assist in the administration and maintenance of the company’s Flight Operations Quality Assurance (FOQA) program        Participate in the analysis of observations collected through the Line Operational Safety Audit (LOSA)        Prepare data and reports for review during the company’s Safety Assurance groups as part of the Safety Management System (SMS)        Additional duties may involve interaction with the Flight and Maintenance Departments, as well as some travel        Daily responsibilities include data entry, data analysis, and project development  Job Qualifications and Competencies:         Minimum of one year of progress towards an undergraduate degree in safety or aviation/ aeronautical science        Excellent verbal and written communication skills        Microsoft Office Suite skills        Organized, detail oriented, and self-motivated        Ability to handle multiple tasks, solve problems, and the ability to set and meet deadlines        General knowledge of Federal Aviation Regulations (FARs), Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) Regulations, and procedures regarding airline safety  Preferred Qualifications:         Junior or senior undergraduate student        Prior work experience, especially in a fast-paced office environment        Knowledge of Tableau  Work Environment:         Standard office environment, use of computers and other office equipment        Ability to work a flexible schedule if needed        Some travel required        Non-exempt  Physical Requirements:         Occasional lifting up to 25 pounds  The above statements provide a brief description of the general nature of work performed and not intended to be a complete list of responsibilities, duties and skills required for this position.
