Job Description:

The Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department is looking for highly qualified avionics technicians for a fleet of modern law enforcement aircraft. You'll be working with the latest in modern GPS, infrared cameras and searchlights as well as a host of other navigation systems, instruments, and law enforcement equipment.

F-16 Production Flightline APG performs a variety of mechanical duties involving diagnosis of malfunctions and required maintenance, disassembly, rework, repair, replacement, re-assembly or adjustment of various aircraft systems in accordance with technical specifications, engineering instructions, and FAA regulations. Testing and troubleshooting post flight issues.

  • The Technician-level position as a machinist in the Mechanical Engineering Machine Shop operates a wide range of machine tools in the precision fabrication from aerospace-grade metals of prototype / development parts and assemblies, in support of internal customers for research and development projects and contracted programs.
  • Performs all types of inspections to support all phases of assembly and manufacturing, including but not limited to subcontracted and/or purchased parts.
  • Performs miscellaneous duties as assigned.
  • May require the ability to lift up to 40 pounds.
  • Assemble cables and harness assemblies.
  • May be required to perform a variety of electrical assembly operations; such as soldering, wiring, cutting, chassis marking, preparing terminations, harness or cable forming and lacing.

Inspects components, housings, and finished assemblies of electromechanical products for conformance to established work instruction, industry standards, drawings, etc., using low / high power microscopes, test equipment, and hand-held inspection tools. Work with engineering to report and detail non-conformances.

  • Uses predetermined methods, operations, setups, and prescribed specifications to inspect visually in-process and completed Cable Inspections. Uses various measuring devices.
  • Accepts, rejects, or reworks defective or malfunctioning units or systems.
  • Forming, bending and cutting the extra leads of the components to make them suitable for through hole assembly.
  • Checking the prepared components visually for specified length, bend and performance.
  • Checking sample components by mounting on a bare PCB. Handing over formed components to through-hole process.
  • Select and position electrodes/anodes, part and assemblies in process tanks to apply plating on metallic components.
  • Be able to hand prep (sand) and mask hardware to ensure plating process meets specification and drawing requirements.
  • Plan proper grouping and positioning of material to assure treatment to specifications.

Sets up and operates a variety of machine tools such as CNC lathes, milling machines, and precision grinders to make metal parts, mechanisms, tools, or machines to exacting tolerances and dimensions.

Plans, lays out, fabricates, assembles, installs, and repairs both internal and external aircraft structures and surfaces for aircraft modification in accordance with technical manuals, engineering drawings, and FAA regulations.
Shift:

  • 5/40-1st Shift
  • Work schedules Plan 5/8s with 6/10s to 6/12 surge
  • Performs a variety of tasks ranging from repetitive to non-repetitive production assembly operations on electronic and/or mechanical assemblies and subassemblies such as modules, boards, panels, drawers, frames, and cables. Works from diagrams and drawings, makes initial layouts, and uses hand and/or power tools, jigs, and saws.

  • Uses microscope to verify correct part placement and orientation, manually align parts before soldering and perform post re-flow inspection and touch-up.
  • Maintains FAA/Military and Production records and inspection forms.
  • May fuel and groom the aircraft in preparation for flight test and/or customer delivery.
  • Receives technical guidance, as required from Supervisor, Engineering, or higher-level technician, with any complex aircraft relevant tasks.
  • Use of hand tools, gauges, and testing equipment.

Plans, lays out, fabricates, assembles, installs, and repairs both internal and external aircraft structures and surfaces for aircraft modification in accordance with technical manuals, engineering drawings, and FAA regulations. Heavy structural repair on F-16 Fighter Aircraft, must have MOD, MMRO, or heavy structural experience.

  • Performs a variety of tasks ranging from repetitive to non-repetitive production assembly operations on electronic and/or mechanical assemblies and subassemblies such as modules, boards, panels, drawers, frames, and cables.
  • Works from diagrams and drawings, makes initial layouts, and uses hand and/or power tools, jigs, and saws.
  • Uses microscope to verify correct part placement and orientation, manually align parts before soldering and perform post re-flow inspection and touch-up.

SMT Soldering to IPC and/or J-STD standards. Soldering and Printed Circuit Board assembly working in an Electro Static Discharge (ESD) environment. Use hand tools to build circuit card assemblies. Work using a Microscope utilizing electronic work instructions.

  • Minimum of Three yearsrsquo; experience working with Surface Mount Technology (SMT) material.
  • Minimum of Three yearsrsquo; experience in IPC-610 and/or J-STD-001 soldering
  • Demonstrated printed circuit knowledge and experience
  • Experienced with working in an Electro Static Discharge (ESD) environment

Performs a variety of tasks ranging from repetitive to non-repetitive production assembly operations on electronic and/or mechanical assemblies.
SHIFT:4/10-2nd Shift.Shift hours are 3:30 PM EST-2:00 AM EST Monday-Thursday with OT on weekends.

  • Performs advanced, specialized or prototype production assembly operations on structural parts, mechanical assemblies and subassemblies using automated assembly operations.
  • May provide assembly operation guidance to other assemblers.

FULL TIME/SECOND SHIFTWORK HOURS: 2:30 PM - 11:00 PM

The position is responsible for performing routine and major repairs on the companyrsquo;s fleet of MD500 helicopters. Position also requires good troubleshooting skills along with repair, modification, engine removal, operational checks, and scheduled and unscheduled maintenance of MD500/D/E/F models.
