Purpose and Scope:  The Mobile Aircraft Arresting Systems Technician diagnoses malfunctions and repairs Mobile Aircraft Arresting Systems (MAAS) and Ground Support Equipment (GSE) , advises and trains lower grade workers on diagnosis and repair of less complex repair/maintenance problems, inspects and approves completed maintenance actions, solves repair problems by studying drawings, wiring diagrams and schematics, and technical publications; uses automated maintenance data systems to monitor maintenance trends, analyze equipment requirements, maintain equipment records, and document maintenance actions, and analyzes, diagnosis, and repairs GSE using conventional and digital multi-meters, voltmeters, ohmmeters, frequency counters, oscilloscopes, circuit card testers, transistor testers, and hand tools. Position reports to the Supervisor.Essential Responsibilities:

  • Maintains Mobile Aircraft Arresting Systems (MAAS), performs scheduled and unscheduled maintenance on Mobile Aircraft Arresting Systems (MAAS) and GSE, inspects, tests, and operates Mobile Aircraft Arresting Systems (MAAS) and GSE to determine equipment serviceability and proper operation, services equipment with fuel, oil, water, coolant, hydraulic fluid, refrigerant, and compressed air, diagnoses mechanical and electronic circuitry malfunctions using visual and auditory senses, test equipment, and technical publications.
  • Disassembles and assembles malfunctioning Mobile Aircraft Arresting Systems (MAAS) and GSE accessories and components, removes, disassembles repairs, cleans, treats for corrosion, assembles, and reinstalls Mobile Aircraft Arresting Systems (MAAS) and GSE components and accessories, stencils, and marks Mobile Aircraft Arresting Systems (MAAS) and GSE in accordance with technical publications, stores, handles, labels, uses, and disposes of hazardous materials and waste in accordance with all state, local, and federal environmental standards and regulations.
  • Prepares Mobile Aircraft Arresting Systems (MAAS) and GSE for storage and mobility deployment; and operates, cleans, inspects, and services Mobile Aircraft Arresting Systems (MAAS) and GSE.
  • In addition to maintaining Mobile Aircraft Arresting Systems (MAAS) records, this mechanic maintains and updates paper and electronic equipment records, practices good housekeeping, tool control, Foreign Object Damage prevention, and safety at all times.
  • Perform all other position related duties as assigned or requested.

Minimum Position Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required:

  • High School diploma or equivalent required.
  • Must be fully qualified Mobile Aircraft Arresting Systems Tech.
  • Three years’ experience as Mobile Aircraft Arresting Systems Tech.
  • Completed factory training on Mobile Aircraft Arresting Systems (MAAS)/BAK-12 preferred.
  • Must be experienced in hydraulic equipment.
  • Hands-on experience with BEAR assets or similar Department of Defense Agencies Contingency Systems preferred.
  • Must have excellent organizational skills and be able to understand, speak, read and write English.
  • Ability to read and understand technical data, plans/blueprints and publications pertaining to USAF Mobile Aircraft Arresting Systems (MAAS).
  • MAXIMO experience preferred.
  • Must possess a valid home country driver’s license.
  • Must possess a valid U.S. Passport.
  • Must be able to travel domestically and internationally.
  • Will be required to operate material handling equipment.

Work Environment, Physical Demands, and Mental Demands:

  • Works in maintenance shop or warehouse environment and may be required to work outdoors for extended periods.
  • The diversity of working conditions may range from a standard office type environment, where there is no physical discomfort, to an environment where inclement weather may subject the individuals to severe changes of temperature, less than adequate lighting, dust, wind, rain, and the like.
  • On occasions, individuals may also be required to work in areas where high noise hazards prevail, thus requiring the use of adequate personal protective equipment (PPE).
  • Occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions, cold and or high temperatures associated with the work area.
  • Exposure to high noise levels or unsafe conditions, questioning nonstandard operations or environmental factors that may involve unmitigated hazards, and providing feedback to supervisors and managers on all safety issues.
  • Frequently required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel and talk or hear.
  • Required to stand, walk, sit, and capable of lifting/pushing/pulling minimum of 50 lbs. and performing extensive work handling/lifting equipment.
