Grand Junction, Colo. - West Star Aviation has acquired the recently-released Messier Bugatti Dowty overhaul manuals and technical data for Challenger 604 192-month gear restorations. This “stand-alone” overhaul manual is required to perform any Challenger 604 gear restorations/repairs, and encompasses OEM approved repairs, engineering support, recommended service bulletins and airworthiness directives, as well as OEM mandatory requirements.

Marana, Ariz. - MRO Marana Aerospace Solutions recently completed heavy maintenance and interior reconfiguration on a Boeing 777-200ER passenger aircraft operated by TAAG Angola Airlines. Redmond, Wash.-based Cascade Engineering Services Inc. managed the project.

West Covina, CA - Concorde announces the selection of its RG-380E/60L as the original equipment battery for Viking Air Limited new production DHC-6-400 aircraft. Concorde also announces FAA approval of STC SA03971AT to replace nickel-cadmium main and auxiliary batteries on DHC-6-1, DHC-6-100, DHC-6-200, and DHC-6-300 vintage aircraft.

Guardian Avionics (by CO Guardian, LLC.) announces the launch of the Aero 454. The Aero 454 receives data from an airplane’s Garmin GPS units (430, 530, 650, 750, G900, G1000) and re-transmits it simultaneously to as many as three iPad/Tablet devices held by pilots or passengers. It can now also transmit Standby frequencies on the SL30/SL40 from your Flight-guide IEFB app Airport Pages. Guardian Avionics will be showcasing the Aero 454 at Oshkosh 2012 booth #3063.

The Aeronautical Repair Station Association (ARSA) has submitted a written statement to the U.S. Senate Subcommittee on Aviation Operations, Safety, & Security detailing the important role aviation maintenance services play in ensuring the competitiveness of the American aerospace industry. The statement was included in the official record for the committee’s July 18 hearing, “The Global Competitiveness of the U.S. Aviation Industry: Addressing Competition Issues to Maintain U.S. leadership in the Aerospace Market.”

Hawker Beechcraft, Inc. (Hawker Beechcraft) today announces that it has executed an exclusivity agreement with Superior Aviation Beijing Co., Ltd. (Superior), a Beijing-based aerospace manufacturer, regarding a strategic combination. Should the transaction be completed, Superior intends to maintain Hawker Beechcraft’s existing operations while also investing substantial capital in the company and its business and general aviation product line, saving thousands of American jobs, including in Wichita, KS. and Little Rock, AR.

Teterboro, N.J. – Jet Aviation’s Teterboro operation has been named an official Honeywell avionics dealer, enhancing the level of avionics support available for transient and Teterboro-based operators. Jet Aviation now has the full authority to provide repairs, installations and warranty support. Last year, Jet Aviation Teterboro opened a new avionics shop, received additional FAA approvals and expanded its skilled avionics team.

Irizarry, who has been with Jet Aviation for 10 years, assumes the day-to-day leadership of the human resources function for Jet Aviation Flight Services. Dallas - Baker Aviation Maintenance LLC (Baker) announces its purchase of AeroMech LLC. As part of the agreement, Baker will now operate at two locations: Meacham International Airport (KFTW) in Forth Worth, TX, and Addison Airport (ADS), in Dallas. The purchase was finalized late 2011. Baker will retain all AeroMech employees.

As I thought about how to write an article on technology obsolescence, and the possible tangents that it could take, I decided to focus on products that relate to computer-based or communications-based technologies. Otherwise, this would be a long article. In the interests of keeping this to a readable length, and making it sufficiently interesting, I have chosen to highlight 10 possible sets of products/mechanisms that will either not exist in their present form, or face dramatic change by the year 2020.

I started my career as a field service representative (FSR) at the age of 23 with Aerospatiale Helicopter Corporation. Now, at the age of 53, as I look back at having served with several OEMs in customer support and working both sides of the fence, I thought this might be a good subject matter. Let me start off by saying that these are my views and thoughts and not necessarily the views of other reps and OEMs — although having many friends in field service, I know some may share my thoughts.

By Joe Hertzler In our professions, we are continuously surrounded by maintenance records like manual revisions, bulletins and alerts, discrepancies and the paperwork required to return an aircraft to service.  The paper trail never ends. While safety the overall reason for all this paperwork, compliance is our goal.
