Supervisory Aviation Safety Inspector (Principal Maintenance Inspector)
As a supervisor/manager, the selectee for this position will be eligible to receive a Manager Performance Incentive (MPI) provided eligibility requirements noted in agency policy are met. The MPI is an annual lump-sum incentive payment that considers agency performance, the managers individual performance, and available funding.This position serves as a Supervisory Aviation Safety Inspector and will manage a Flight Standards organization. Duties Help The position reports to the applicable manager and will execute the Agencys aviation safety mission, communicate andbuild change coalitions, seek out opportunities and involve their teams in supporting change across the organization, and employ best practices for sponsoring change and manage resistance.The manager is responsible for aviation safety activities in a complex and dynamic air carrier environment that includesexperience in the following specialties Air Carrier Maintenance. Applies an advanced knowledge of the technical aspectsof the work directed and ensures the promotion of the highest level of safety compliance with regulatory standards whileutilizing transparency of data exchange that includes the identification of hazards and management of risk.Manages and sets clear performance standards that promote accountability, a sense of individual responsibility,professionalism, and pride for organizational performance to next level managers (e.g. assistant managers, front linemanagers, supervisory principal inspector, as applicable). Ensures effective managerial work and work quality across allunits and cross-organizational relationships while maintaining unit and individual wellbeing. Responsible for theleadership, planning, prioritizing, direction, communication, tasking, training, and scheduling of work. Also, responsiblefor time and attendance, leave approval, performance evaluation, corrective and disciplinary actions, and the setting ofthe front-line office goals and objectives.Supports effective problem solving by ensuring subordinates are accountable to address challenges and barriers and areclear about roles and responsibilities for decision-making. Confirms active collaboration occurs beyond the office/branchand that solutions fully consider and represent all relevant perspectives/interests. Delegates work and empowerssubordinates to decentralize decision-making. Confirms subordinates take on expected work and produce intendedresults with minimal intervention. Ensure subordinates communicate progress and barriers, and coordinate decisionsacross organizational boundaries as appropriate. Applies an advanced knowledge of budget, human resource, and otheradministrative policies and procedures, and an advanced understanding of the objectives of the major subdivision.Makes effective resourcing decisions across several work units, teams, or groups; making certain that work units deliverexpected output within required time frame and budget. Performs critical aspects of the budget planning process,including projecting short-term and long-term future needs and justifying resource requirements.Resolves all but unique problems without the intervention of higher-level management. Holds subordinate managersaccountable for maintaining mutually productive partnerships with stakeholders as demonstrated by productive conflictand effective action taking to address issues impeding effectiveness. Meets with stakeholders regularly.Selects and develops next level managers in accordance with established selection and development guidance andprocesses. Ensures selections for those positions meet the expectations of FS and represent both individual competencyand temperament for working as a productive team member to increase the field of future leader talent.Demonstrates leadership and commitment to the FAA model EEO program. Qualifications Aviation Safety Inspector positions have job related medical requirements. Aircraft maintenance experience in a repair station; air carrier or airline repair facility; military repair facility; or local, state, or Federal governmental agency.3. Experience involving the maintenance and repair of airframes, power plants, and aircraft systems with responsibility for certifying airworthiness.4. Aircraft maintenance work experience within the last 3 years.5. FAA Mechanic Certificate with airframe and power plant ratings.When the predominant work involves general aviation maintenance, applicants for Aviation Safety Inspector (Airworthiness) positions must meet all of the following requirements.1. Experience involving the maintenance and repair of airframes, power plants, and aircraft systems with responsibility for certifying airworthiness.2. Maintenance experience with aircraft 12,500 pounds or less maximum certificated takeoff weight.3.
