The class specification for the position of an Aviation Mechanic for the Sheriff's Office requires a high level of technical and mechanical aptitude, along with specialized training. The Aviation Mechanic performs a variety of functions in support of the Sheriffrsquo;s Office Aviation Unit including:

  • Inspect Helicopters Regularly
  • Troubleshoot and Diagnose Potential Problems
  • Perform Necessary Helicopter Maintenance and Repairs
  • Communicate with Pilots
  • Make Recommendations for Maintenance, Repair, and Retirement of Helicopters
Requirements: 
  • 24-48 Months of Practical Turbine Helicopter Maintenance Experience
  • FAA-approved Maintenance Technician Certification (A P required and IA preferred)
  • Previous Aviation Experience (OH-58/206 Jet Ranger)
  • Previous Mechanic Experience (Microvibe System Familiarity preferred)
  • Must own a complete set of aviation quality hand tools
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Valid Florida Driverrsquo;s License
