What you can expect as a Sheet Metal Technician at West Star:
.As Sheet Metal Technician, each day will bring new experiences and opportunities for growth. You will need to have a basic to advanced knowledge of turbine aircraft structures, reading blueprints, working from drawings, fastening systems, procedures and techniques. You many also be required to help supervise crews and assist in organizing manpower and setting priorities for involved projects.

You will be ESSENTIAL to many FUNCTIONS including:


  • Perform basic sheet metal operations such as drilling, riveting, cutting on airframe and associated components.

  • Application and removal of sealant, sound deadening and finish materials.

  • Maintenance, cleaning and repair of shop facility, equipment and tooling when required.

  • Basic computer skills to be able to navigate electronic training, manuals, and maintenance data bases

  • Effectively and clearly communicate (i.e., speak, write, read) in English

  • Any other job-related duties as assigned by supervisor or management.

What yoursquo;ll need to bring with you:

Your Education:
A High school diploma or equivalent, and Airframe and Powerplant License is preferred. A valid driverrsquo;s license approved for airline travel and/or a valid passport is ideal, but not mandatory.

Your Experience :
Technician I: 0-2 yearsrsquo; experience working with sheet metal
Technician II: 2-5 yearsrsquo; experience as a sheet metal technician on aircraft
Technician III: 5+ yearsrsquo; experience as a sheet metal technician on aircraft

Your Initiative:
Wersquo;re looking for team players who are self-motivated and able to perform in a fast paced environment where working under specific deadlines and time constraints will be common.

Your Sense of Responsibility:
Attend work every day as scheduled to include overtime and weekend assignments.
Notify supervisor in advance of shift starting if unable to work.
Must have reliable transportation to get to work each and every day.
Perform all work in accordance with Federal Aviation Administration guidelines.
Follow all company and safety rules during performance of duties.
Maintain customer oriented work habits.Other particulars:

Physical Requirements
Lifts 50 lbs.
Routine walking, bending and squatting or sitting.
Routine or repetitive physical motion with arms and hands.
Climb ladders and stairs, work in small restricted areas
Standing for long periods of time.

Requirements: 

Job Specifications
Understanding and implementation of regulations and guidelines.
Troubleshoot or evaluate system operation.
Work with others in a professional manner.

Supervision
Work under supervision of assigned Team Leader.
May be directed to supervise other technicians in some capacity.

Working Conditions
Work is performed in a hangar environment subject to extreme temperature variations from very cold to very hot.
Work outside during aircraft runs will occur.
Varied positions in and around the aircraft.

Equipment Used
Personal hand tools supplied by the mechanic.
Pneumatic, hydraulic and electrical equipment.
Jacks, stands, lifts and other support devices.
Tugs, power carts and other engine powered equipment.
