Results from the world's first in-flight study of the impact of using 100% sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) on both engines of a commercial aircraft show a reduction in soot particles and formation of contrail ice crystals compared to using conventional Jet A-1 fuel. 

Airbus, Avinor, SAS, Swedavia and Vattenfall sign a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to investigate the feasibility of a hydrogen infrastructure at airports in Sweden and Norway. Airbus UpNext, a wholly owned subsidiary of Airbus, reveals a flight-test program to study the contrails produced by a hydrogen combustion engine as part the company’s ZEROe roadmap. The project, named “Blue Condor,” will launch two modified Arcus gliders, one equipped with a hydrogen combustion engine and one equipped with a conventional kerosene-powered combustion engine, in order to compare contrails emitted at high altitudes.

Airbus performs a first A380 flight powered by 100% sustainable aviation fuel (SAF). Airbus’ A380 test aircraft MSN 1 took off from Blagnac Airport, Toulouse, France, at 08h43 on Friday, March 25. The flight lasted about three hours, operating one Rolls-Royce Trent 900 engine on 100% SAF.
