AEA Educational Foundation Announces Scholarship Winners

The Aircraft Electronics Association's Educational Foundation announces the names of 26 individuals who were awarded scholarships for the 2024-25 academic year. The AEA Educational Foundation annually awards scholarships to students pursuing a career in avionics or aircraft maintenance, as well as students from AEA member companies.
CAE Inaugurates Savannah, GA, Training Center for Gulfstream Pilots and Maintenance Technicians

CAE inaugurates its first Gulfstream-dedicated business-aviation training center, which will be a key component to training more pilots and maintenance technicians over the coming decades. The maintenance training program, which will include state-of-the-art virtual reality, will be offered on Gulfstream G280, G650 and G500/G600 business jets. The Savannah facility is CAE’s fifth business-aviation training center in the United States.
Youth and Family Activities Expand for AirVenture 2024

West Star Aviation announces that after a multi-year succession planning process, a new executive leadership structure has been named. Jim Rankin, who has served as the company’s chief executive officer since 2018, has been named executive chairman of the Board, Stephen Maiden has been appointed his successor as the company’s CEO, and Allen McReynolds, who currently serves as chief operating officer, will take on an expanded role as president and COO, responsible for all West Star operations.

Results from the world's first in-flight study of the impact of using 100% sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) on both engines of a commercial aircraft show a reduction in soot particles and formation of contrail ice crystals compared to using conventional Jet A-1 fuel.  The ECLIF3 study, in which Airbus, Rolls-Royce, the German Aerospace Center (DLR) and SAF producer Neste collaborated, was the first to measure the impact of 100% SAF use to emissions from both engines of an Airbus A350 powered by Rolls-Royce Trent XWB engines and followed by a DLR chase plane.

West Star Aviation announces that its Denver satellite facility, located at Centennial Airport (APA), has moved into a larger hangar to accommodate customers with larger airframes, while also being able to expand its services. The new hangar is located just a few hangars away from the current one and is almost 3000 square feet larger than the previous location, having 18,750 square feet of hangar space and 1,760 square feet of office space. This allows for greater capacity and height to service larger aircraft like Globals and Gulfstreams.

Amazon announces the FAA has extended Prime Air permissions that allows it to operate its drones beyond visual line of sight (BVLOS), allowing the company to serve more customers via drone and effectively expand and scale its drone delivery operations.  In order to obtain this permission, Prime Air developed a BVLOS strategy, including an onboard detect-and-avoid technology. The company spent years developing, testing, and refining its onboard detect-and-avoid system to ensure its drones can detect and avoid obstacles in the air.

StandardAero has appointed Kim Ernzen to serve as chief operating officer.  In this role, she reports directly to Russell Ford, StandardAero chairman and CEO and is responsible for global operational performance, efficiency and excellence, as well as engineering and supply chain management for StandardAero. In addition, StandardAero’s Engine Services and Component Repair Services division presidents will report directly to Ernzen, who will maintain close oversight of the company’s overall business performance.  She replaces Kerry O’Sullivan, who is retiring from StandardAero, and will be located at the company’s Scottsdale, AZ headquarters office.
