The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) plays an integral role in the development, testing and recent approval of a new alternative, environmentally-friendly, bio-based jet fuel, bringing the total number of approved products for use in air travel to five. The new fuel will make air travel more environmentally sustainable and increase national energy resources. In contrast to traditional petroleum-based fuels, the new alternative fuels can reduce air quality emissions and are renewable.

The National Business Aviation Association (NBAA) joins with several aviation groups in signing a letter opposing two proposals that would eliminate federal oversight for the regulation of unmanned aircraft systems (UAS) and their integration into the National Airspace System. The proposals were offered as amendments (#3558 and #3650) to H.R.636, a Senate bill under consideration for reauthorizing programs and funding for the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA).

Rolls-Royce opens a new service delivery center at Naval Air Station Kingsville (TX) to support T-45 aircraft used to train U.S. Navy and Marine Corps pilots. The service delivery center (SDC), the first such facility opened by Rolls-Royce in the United States, provides on-site support to repair engines and manage service operations for Rolls-Royce F405 (Adour) engines, which power the T-45 two-seat training aircraft.

As Appareo prepares for the final FAA flight test for Stratus ESG (an ADS-B Out transponder with built-in WAAS GPS), the company announces a price reduction. Appareo, which designs, develops, manufactures and supports all Stratus products in the USA, has lowered the MSRP of Stratus ESG from $3,490 to $2,995. This new low price still includes built-in WAAS GPS and a GPS antenna at no extra cost, making Stratus ESG the industry’s most affordable panel-mounted 1090 ES transponder with WAAS GPS.
