JETTECH announces a pending FAA Supplemental Type Certificate (STC) for installing the touchscreen Garmin GTN 650/750 GPS/NAV/COM on the Cessna Citation Jet (CJ) model 525 for aircraft manufactured from 1993-1999 with Serial Numbers 0001-0359. The pending STC is for single or dual GTN 650/750 fully integrated GPS/NAV/COMM. It also includes WAAS approvals and will certify the aircraft for fully autopilot coupled GPS LPV approaches.

On Thursday, March 13, the Aircraft Electronics Association announced its 2013 year-end Avionics Market Report during the opening general session of the 57th annual AEA International Convention & Trade Show at the Gaylord Opryland Convention Center in Nashville, Tenn. As part of its report, the AEA also announced it has narrowed the dollar amount reported by the participating manufacturers to only include the business and general aviation markets, which resulted in the association adjusting its 2012 year-end sales figure reported a year ago.

Air France Industries KLM Engineering & Maintenance (AFI KLM E&M) and Sabena technics have reached an agreement under which the Franco-Dutch group will take full control of Barfield, the North American subsidiary of Sabena technics. The transaction should be finalized in the first half of 2014, subject to regulatory approval.

LEKTRO, Inc. announces its AP8950SDB-AL-200 towing vehicle is now certified to tow the Airbus A318, A319 and A320. Avionics & Systems Integration Group (ASIG, LLC), Shadin Avionics, and SpatiOS, a consortium leading the implementation of integrated iPad solutions, jointly announced today the issuance of FAA AML-STC#ST11156SC for the flyTab iPad EFB in Part 25 aircraft. The STC authorizes the installation of a Dual flyTab Class 2 iPad EFB in any Part 25 aircraft, according to an approved model list (AML) which is maintained by the Avionics & Systems Integration Group.

PremiAir Aviation International Ltd, U.K., announces that it has entered into a transatlantic joint venture with Aviation Specialties Unlimited, Inc., (ASU) of Boise, ID to bring innovative new night vision technologies to the U.K. and other European countries.  Under the terms of the joint venture – which was signed at the recent Helicopter Association International annual HELI-EXPO in Anaheim, CA - PremiAir and ASU will jointly supply, sell and support night vision products, maintenance, training and aircraft modification services in the U.K. and Continental Europe.

For those who might not know, I don’t have a degree in English or Journalism. I am an A&P. I also had my Inspection Authorization until two years ago when the FAA clarified “actively engaged.” Unfortunately, writing about aviation maintenance management doesn’t meet the FAA’s definition of actively engaged – to “inspect, overhaul, repair, preserve, or replace parts on aircraft, or supervise (i.e., direct and inspect) those activities.”
