Every company holds meetings every day. Meetings are important in company operations such as communication, setting clear goals and solving problems. Meetings are good for identifying, recognizing, and solving problems. However, you will probably attend some meetings that will be a waste of time.  Successful supervisors are seldom guilty of calling unnecessary meetings. If you hold a meeting, have a good reason for it to justify taking busy people from their work. You must also be sure to conduct it properly to get the most from it.

E-enabled aircraft are changing not only the business of aviation, but the business of aviation maintenance, with the greatest adjustments still looming on the horizon. As everyone in the industry is well aware, aircraft are becoming more digital and more automated, and communicating more externally. This evolutionary change is driving many changes to how aircraft are designed, tested, secured and operated (with the greatest changes yet to come due to NextGen and SESAR), but also how to they will be maintained. By Norman Chance Fortunately for our family, this past Saturday was beautiful. The temperature here in the Midwest was 70 degrees — perfect for a much-needed garage sale. By some sure stroke of good fortune,we managed to sell almost absolutely everything we had in our driveway. As we wrapped up the last few items left, I looked up to see a Dash 8 turboprop on final approach to Indianapolis International Airport.  “Wow,” I commented. “Sure is a nice day for flying.”

Concorde has received STC and PMA approvals for ATR 42/72 Series, Boeing 737-600, -700, -800, -900 Series, Bombardier DHC-8-100, -200, -300, -400 Series, Embraer EMB-500 (Phenom 100), MD Helicopters MD-900, and FAA-PMA approval for Learjet 40/45 emergency battery. ATR 42 Series: ATR 72 Series, STC No. ST03930AT has been FAA approved to replace the nickel-cadmium main battery with Concorde’s TSO approved RG-380E/44 (OE on many corporate aircraft) and the nickel-cadmium emergency battery with Concorde’s TSO approved RG-42. FAA-PMA Approved Supplement No. 97.

Dallas Airmotive, a BBA Aviation Engine Repair and Overhaul Group (ERO) company, has added a new mobile service vehicle to its U.S. fleet. Based in St. Louis, Missouri the new mobile unit will cover the central United States including the Chicago area and offer a wide range of engine repair services including on site hot section inspection for Honeywell 36 series auxiliary power units and compressor carbon seal repair. The Dallas Airmotive U.S. mobile fleet is now comprised of four shop level capable vehicles and eight lighter duty pickup trucks.

Hawker Beechcraft Corporation (HBC) announced at NBAA that Clint Bowyer, Kansas native and NASCAR Sprint Cup Series driver, has signed an order for upgrades to his Beechcraft Premier IA following new product announcements by Hawker Beechcraft Services (HBS). Bowyer is the launch customer for a Synthetic Vision System (SVS) upgrade to his Pro Line 21 displays, new aftermarket winglets by Winglet Technology and an Aircell ATG 5000 installation.

The National Business Aviation Association (NBAA) and the Corporate Angel Network (CAN) applaud the $220,000 raised on October 12 through an industry benefit held to support CAN’s life-saving flights for cancer patients. “The business aviation community has long understood the need to ‘give back,’ and that was clearly in evidence in this show of support for CAN’s work,” says NBAA President and CEO Ed Bolen. “The contributions raised through our benefit will make a difference in many people’s lives.”

Hawker Beechcraft Corporation (HBC) announced at NBAA that all of its turbine-powered aircraft are approved to use biofuels — a renewable resource that can help reduce the use of fossil fuels and minimize carbon emissions. To be used in HBC aircraft, they must meet American Society for Testing and Materials International (ASTM) turbine fuel standards.

Donaldson Aerospace & Defense, a division of Donaldson Company, Inc., has obtained Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) approval for the first Inlet Barrier Filter (IBF) system available for the Eurocopter AS350B3e model helicopter with the Turbomeca Arriel 2D engine. The Donaldson IBF approval adds the AS350B3e to the existing Supplemental Type Certificate (STC) for both single hydraulic aircraft (PN#112005-101) and dual hydraulic aircraft (PN#121001-101).

Honeywell Aerospace has approved Executive Aircraft Maintenance (EAM) of Scottsdale, AZ to provide TPE331 turboprop component repair services.  EAM is authorized to perform Level 3 Services on TPE331-1 through -14 engine components, subcomponents and parts listed in Honeywell maintenance manuals within EAM’s FAA-approved capabilities.
