Gulfstream Aerospace Corp. announces it has recently launched a multi-tiered recycling program that has successfully diverted more than 1.2 million pounds of recyclables from the company’s waste stream. Wood recycling has saved 782,620 pounds from the landfill since November 2010 when the Savannah-based program was implemented. Single-stream recycling of paper, metal, plastic and cardboard accounted for another 433,940 pounds between February 2011, when the program was established at the company’s Savannah and Brunswick facilities, and June.

Some of the mail order suppliers have been involved in a dishonest form of deception for years. The deception occurs when “XYZ supplier” prints a catalog full of aircraft parts. FlightSafety International announces that it will offer training for Gulfstream G450 and G550 aircraft at its Learning Center in Dallas, Texas. The new Gulfstream G450/G550 interchangeable simulator is scheduled to be shipped to FlightSafety’s Learning Center in Dallas, Texas next year. Training will begin following Level D qualification of the simulator. With this addition, and the company’s recent announcement that it will offer Gulfstream G450 and G550 training in Hong Kong, FlightSafety will have a fleet of ten Gulfstream G450 and G550 full flight simulators.

The Aircraft Electronics Association released the results from its 2011 Rate & Labor Survey this week to participating AEA member companies. The complete AEA Rate & Labor Survey is now available for purchase for non-members. In comparing this year’s annual survey results with the 2010 Rate & Labor Survey, the AEA discovered some improvements in business outlook despite business activity that appears to be leveling off in 2011.

If you hold a mechanic certificate with airframe and powerplant ratings, you know that you need an inspection authorization (IA) issued under FAR 65.91 in order to perform and sign off on an annual or progressive inspection, or to inspect an aircraft and return it to service after a major repair or major alteration. In order to obtain an IA, a mechanic must meet the eligibility requirements of Section 65.91(c). Section 65.93(a) incorporates those same requirements for renewal of an IA. An IA is issued for a two-year period and expires on March 31 of odd-numbered years.

Sikorsky Helitech, a Sikorsky Aerospace Services company based in Brisbane, Queensland, Australia, announces the signing of an agreement with FlightSafety International to provide maintenance training for customers in the Asia Pacific area. The three-year agreement is the first of its kind to offer Pratt & Whitney Canada Aircraft Engine maintenance training in the region. Sikorsky Aerospace Services is the aftermarket division of Sikorsky Aircraft Corp., a subsidiary of United Technologies Corp.
