National Air Transportation Association (NATA) President and CEO Thomas L. Hendricks testified today before the House Aviation Subcommittee to discuss the Federal Aviation Administration’s (FAA) aircraft certification process.
The FAA issues type and manufacturing certificates to aircraft, aircraft engines and propellers, as well as aircraft parts and appliances. The purpose is to create a standard level of safety that is continuously monitored by the FAA.

AV8 MRO LLC., an FAA and EASA Repair Station specializing in the overhaul and repair of Hawker landing gear, recently announced it has been selected as the preferred provider for the repair and overhaul of all Hawker landing gear for Duncan Aviation.
In addition to its in-house capabilities to repair and overhaul all series of Hawker landing gear, AV8 MRO has aggressively pursued gaining FAA Repair Specification Approval to make replacement parts. Since receiving that FAA approval, AV8 MRO has gained approval for nearly 400 parts for Hawker landing gear.

Just a few months into narrow-body service, Jet Aviation St. Louis performed inspections on its third Boeing Business Jet (BBJ) and already has scheduled a
return visit for additional service for the same BBJ in the near future.
The BBJ spent a week in September in Jet Aviation St. Louis’ narrow-body hangar for 6-, 12- and 24-month inspections. The owner has scheduled a return visit within a few months for additional service expected to take several weeks.

Dallas Aeronautical Services (DAS) recently announced the construction of a new facility in Cedar Hill, TX. The all new 50,400 sq. ft. facility will span over three acres of land and is being constructed in Cedar Hill’s High Meadows Industrial Park. This system is a marriage of the Automated Maintenance Robot (AMR), an existing Battelle technology, and a proven manual method of transparency restoration. Las Vegas - On Monday, Beechcraft Corporation announced at the 2013 NBAA Business Aviation Convention & Exhibition that it has signed a long-term engine service agreement with Pratt & Whitney Canada (P&WC) to support the PT6A-60A engines powering the King Air 350i aircraft recently ordered by private aviation membership company Wheels Up. Under this renewable agreement, the Wheels Up King Air 350i fleet will be enrolled in P&WC’s world-class Gold Eagle Service Plan (ESP Program).

In my previous article, we discussed whether aerospace-focused startups can help revive the economy, and identified potential niches that are growing. The answer seems to be a resounding ‘yes’. New technology companies that address various niches with aerospace/aviation/travel have been identified in Table One. There are several ways I choose people to profile in our magazine. Sometimes I get a lead from one of our advertisers who deals with a lot of directors of maintenance. Sometimes I meet at maintenance manager at a trade show or event and realize they would make a good cover story. Sometimes I get a recommendation from a co-worker or employee.
