We may not believe in magic, but some of our customers perceive that from us. When their aircraft has a problem they receive it back and the problem has disappeared, “it’s magically gone.” It took a lot of work blended with experience to make that magical moment happen. A pilot with an airline will not witness that magical moment because the aircraft they flew in will more than likely not be the aircraft they will fly out. All they know is that everything works. Just like the passengers, all they care about is the fact that everything works.

The D.O.M. magazine staff was in Atlanta April 16-18 attending the MRO Americas show April 16-18. It was a busy show with lots of exhibitors on the show floor and plenty of attendees talking to them. It was an opportunity to learn about new products and services. It was also a chance to meet new people and catch up with friends I have made over the years.

  The National Air Transportation Association (NATA) convened its inaugural Aviation Business & Legislative Conference in Washington, DC in April with more than 100 member companies participating. The conference featured key sessions with Executive and Legislative decision-makers and also included a highly successful congressional reception at the U.S. Capitol Building.

Flying Colours Corp., an Ontario, Canada based aviation company specializing in business aircraft completions, maintenance and refurbishments, has been appointed by Beechcraft as an Authorized Service Center (ASC) for the entire King Air, Baron and Bonanza product lines. The new service centre status for its Ontario location will offer Canadian owners of these models a convenient one stop centre for all their aircraft service requirements as Flying Colours Corp. can provide maintenance, modifications, refurbishment and paint work services under the terms of the ASC.

West Star Aviation recently announced its program to aid the Community Hope Center Food Bank through its “Casual Friday” initiative at the company’s East Alton, IL (ALN) location. Beginning April 5, any employee who would like to wear jeans on “Casual Friday” is asked to bring a canned food item for donation to the food bank.

The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) today took the next step in returning the Boeing 787 to flight by approving Boeing's design for modifications to the 787 battery system. The changes are designed to address risks at the battery cell level, the battery level and the aircraft level.

St. Louis - Jet Aviation St. Louis welcomed its first Boeing Business Jet (BBJ) in February, and its second BBJ is scheduled for this Spring. Both aircraft will have maintenance and minor interior upgrades performed. The construction of a narrow-body hangar, training of technicians and investment in infrastructure resulted in the BBJ projects. Numerous St. Louis technicians have been sent to Jet Aviation's sister facility in Basel, Switzerland, to gain first-hand experience working on BBJs. This cooperative work program began in early 2010 and continues today.

Prior to joining Superior Air Parts, Chatten had been the associate vice president of engineering for Continental Motors Inc. During his more than 14-year career, he has held a variety of engineering and program management positions with increasing responsibilities within the engine manufacturing company. When I started this series, I expected to be able to cover all of the elements of electronic signatures in just three issues. As I proceed and dig deeper into the topic, I find it necessary to expand to four issues in order to cover the details well enough to be helpful in understanding how electronic signatures will impact our industry.
