The McKinney, TX City Council has approved changing the name of Collin County Regional Airport to McKinney National Airport. The decision follows the city’s purchase of airport assets and the start of city operations as the airport’s Fixed Base Operator (FBO),McKinney Air Center.

Duncan Aviation’s location in Provo, UT recently announced that it has been approved by the Mexican Civil Aviation Authority as an approved aircraft maintenance organization. In addition, the company’s Battle Creek, MI location recently received approval by Bermuda’s Civil Aviation Authority. “Duncan Aviation continually evaluates its certifications and is constantly communicating with customers and prospects around the world to secure new certifications when it makes sense to do so,” says Chris VanderWeide, chief inspector of International Airworthiness for Duncan Aviation.

West Star Aviation announces it has received a Silver Award from the Colorado Governor’s Environmental Leadership Program (ELP). This is the third time West Star has received the Silver Award since it was first recognized as a Bronze Achiever in 2010. A maintenance facility representative recently asked me to explain what duties the facility might owe to an aircraft owner when the owner leaves his or her aircraft with the facility for service, other than the responsibility for performing repair or maintenance services on the aircraft as requested by the aircraft owner. Some certificate holders have an arrangement with the agency to register aircraft similar to a car dealer’s methods. Businesses concentrate on the tangibles and measurables — “business by the numbers” as they say. This sounds like the way to go, making objective decisions based on objective criteria. Even quality systems are run by numbers. I teach it in my class, “You don’t improve what you don’t measure.” I had to start rethinking that statement because we tend to focus too much on the numeric goals and ignore the intangibles that are not directly measurable in our organizations. These are the soft issues that have a huge impact.

National Air Transportation Association (NATA) President and CEO Thomas L. Hendricks testified today before the House Aviation Subcommittee to discuss the Federal Aviation Administration’s (FAA) aircraft certification process. The FAA issues type and manufacturing certificates to aircraft, aircraft engines and propellers, as well as aircraft parts and appliances. The purpose is to create a standard level of safety that is continuously monitored by the FAA.

Gulfstream Aerospace Corp. recently expanded the role of commercial sales representative Prestige Jet to handle Gulfstream aircraft transactions in France as well as Italy and Switzerland. Prestige Jet, led by CEO Thierry Le Tourneur, will work closely with Gulfstream’s Rebecca Johnson, regional vice president, central and southern Europe, and Trevor Esling, regional senior vice president, International Sales, who will continue to oversee sales in the region.
